Every project generates decisions, regardless its size. If there are no guidelines, decisions will be made autonomously within the project. This frequently leads to anarchy in the development of the IT-infrastructure — sometimes resulting in new, unwanted technology, while at other times resulting in the maintenance of old technology which is quickly outdated.
There is thus a need for a technology plan which defines the acceptable technology, now and in the near future.
